Brewery Market in Hintonburg

Saturday, Oct. 13

Ottawa’s first Brewery Market will be held Saturday, from noon to 8 p.m., on the site of a former garage (Wally Becker’s at 1000 Wellington St. West, at the corner of Irving Avenue in Hintonburg). The farmers’-market-like showcase of beers and brewers began in Toronto, but Ottawa’s version will be the biggest yet, showcasing 10 local breweries. Hintonburger, Hintonburg Public House, Union613 and Relish Food Truck will be serving such dishes as Kichesippi Crispy Cod on a Bun and Hogsback Bacon Burgers.

Looneyspoons book signing

Saturday, Oct. 13

Cookbook authors and TV show hosts Janet and Greta Podleski sign copies of their latest book, The Looneyspoons Collection, at the Costco at 1990 Cyrville Rd. between noon and 2 p.m.

Pie Contest at Ottawa Farmers’ Market

Sunday, Oct. 14

Though the markets will go on for a few more weeks, this Sunday at Brewer Park will be the last special celebration of this season, with a Great Harvest Event and a Pie Contest. To celebrate the harvest, local chefs will be offering tastings, buskers will be entertaining and children will get to do pumpkin crafts and decorate cookies. You can also judge vendors’ entries in a pie contest — everything from a traditional tourtière from Hall’s Apple Farm to shoofly pie from Fitzroy Beef Farmers.

Wine Taste & Buy Event at NAC

Friday, Oct. 19

For the first time, wineries of Niagara’s notable Twenty Valley are going on tour together to bring more than 50 of their best bottles to Ottawa.
