Drink and be merry
This holiday season, don’t drop the (high) ball. There’s nothing more depressing than being invited to your new man’s holiday party and watching him order an apple-tini. So, we’re celebrating the return of the man’s man. He drinks scotch, knows how to wear a suit, can spin his gal around on the dance floor and knows the difference between real Champagne and sparkling wine. We tested a couple of holiday watering holes and suggest that between the office, cocktails, shopping and holiday parties, you take a load off, grab a stool at the bar and join us for a drink.
The place: ARC The. Hotel
The drink: Dom Perignon Champagne
The occasion: Christmas with that special lady. Dom Perignon is the way to go to ring in the New Year the right way (provided your pocketbook can handle it). Reserve this one for special occasion, but know that once you’ve had a taste of the real deal, sparkling vino just won’t cut it anymore.
The look: Keddy is wearing a bowtie, $45, Stroked Ego; pocket square, $25, Stroked Ego; belt, $105, Stroked Ego; shirt by J.Lindberg, $175, SchadBlu; jacket by Diesel, $275, SchadBlu; jeans by John Varvatos. $159, SchadBlu; shoes by Steve Madden, $125, Wolf & Zed; Christiana is wearing a dress by Mackage, $490, Schad.
The place: Sidedoor Restaurant
The drink: Rusty Nail
1 1/2 ounce (45 g) scotch whisky
1/2 ounce (15 g) Drambuie 1 twist lemon peel
The occasion: The Pre- Drink. Between all the holiday hoopla, relax with this perfectly balanced gent’s drink. Smooth without being overly delicate, classic but not pretentious, the Rusty Nail is everything you want to warm you up after a day on the slopes. Just grab your favourite ski sweater.
The look: Theak is wearing Levi’s jeans, $88; Sweater QVE, $149 (both available at Roadtrip.)

The drink: Manhattan
2 ounce (60 g) rye whisky 1⁄2 ounce (15 g) Sweet Vermouth
2-3 dashes Angostura bitters
Maraschino cherry for garnish
The occasion: The night- cap. After a long day of trudging about in the snow, a Manhattan is the way to go. It packs a wallop while the sweetness of that cherry is the perfect goodnight kiss. The Manhattan will knock you out and tuck you in, all in time for Christmas.
The look: Kevin is wearing a tie by Ted Baker, $85, Stroked Ego; tie clip, $65, Stroked Ego; shirt by John Varvatos, $125, SchadBlu; jacket by Sand, $955, SchadBlu; jeans by Diesel Black Label, $299, SchadBlu; shoes by John Varvatos, $298, Wolf & Zed; hat by J.Lindberg, $49, SchadBlu.

The drink: Snowshoe Grog 1/2 ounce (15 g) bourbon or brandy
1/2 ounce (15 g) peppermint schnapps
The occasion: The Holiday Party. While the suburban dads in their holiday sweaters are enjoying yet another round of eggnog, give the Snowshoe Grog a try. That hint of peppermint will awaken your Christmas senses and blended with bourbon, the Snowshoe Grog could just as easily be called the Holidays on Ice. It’s as refreshing as it sounds.
The look: Theak is wearing a shirt by Martinique, $65; sweater by Fred Perry, $165; pants by Martinique $119; hat by Nobis $42 (all available at Roadtrip.)
